I’m not a “conservative Catholic” or a “liberal Catholic”. Why? Because I think our attempt to make Jesus fit into our political categories is misguided. In all things, we should be trying to fit ourselves into his categories, not the other way around.
I’m still a Catholic because the Catholic faith—even with the massive weight of its theology, philosophy, tradition, and history—is still the most humane version of Christianity that I’ve found.
If you’re a Christian who is working for “the salvation of souls”, try this: Stop thinking of them as souls and start thinking of them as people.
